To begin creating a tournament, click on the link in your TD Administration Center that says “Create Tournament". There are three tournament formats to choose from. Single Elimination , Double elimination and Swiss system.
When you have chosen what format you want to make click submit. Now you will see a calendar of the current month. Each of the yellow numbers represents the number of tournaments scheduled for that day. To select a day, click the yellow number within the day you would like to host. To view future months, scroll to the bottom and select the month and year you would like to view.
The next page is a list of times for that day. Next to the times that are already scheduled, you will see the TD that is hosting in that timeslot, the number of rounds, the number of players per match i.e. 1 v 1 or 2 v 2, the amount of bux charged or not then whether ladder stats and the location where it is being held. Click on the time you would like to host your tournament. When you are clicking on the time make sure you check that you have clicked for a.m or p. m
This is the next page the hub of creating a tourney.
Name of Tournament - This is where the title of your tournament goes. This will appear in the header of your tourney page.
Game - Select from the drop down menu the game you will be playing. If the game you want to play isnt in the drop down menu then click 'add new game' . A pop up window will appear where you can add the details of the game.
Game Room Name - Enter the name of the room name you will be playing in.
Game Room Link (url to where the game is being played) - You can enter the URL of the room you are playing in. If you do not know the link then a good site to try is www.backdoors.to .
Game Format - Enter the name of the format of the game you will be playing .
Tourney Style - you can choose Classic or Classic Pro. This is just the style your tourney page will appear . Most people use classic.
Number of Rounds - As you can see it goes from 2 rounds to 8 rounds. It is advisable to make a tourney for 8 rounds the maximum. This will accommodate any number of jumpers and when you close your tourney cases will shrink the rounds down to fit the number of jumpers. If you close your tourney and for example you only set for 2 rounds and had say 10 jumpers then cases will drop 6 players ending up with some very irate players .
Minutes between Round - As a guide most people put 30 mins in there.
Number of Players per Team - This represents the number of players that will be on a team. For a normal 1 v 1 tourney you would leave that at the default of 1. If you were doing teams then that would be changed to 2.
Teams Competing per Match - The following is quoted from cases -
This number defines how many teams will be involved in each match of the tournament. In a 1vs1 type tournament, each person is considered to be a member of his own team. Therefore, each team only has one member. So, in a tournament that is going to be 1vs1 type format, the "Teams Competing per Match" is 2. This is going to be your standard format and is therefore the default for this field. If you are still unsure what exactly this field means, just leave the number at 2.
Another way to explain this field is using the name, Free-For-All (FFA). A tournament having the 1vs1vs1vs1 type format, such as a game of hearts, has 4 "Teams Competing per Match" (aka 4 person FFA). This type of format is also popular in games such as Risk, where there might be 3 players all competing against each other. In this case, the "Teams Competing per Match" is 3, since as noted above, each player is considered a team.
In other games such as Starcraft, it's also possible to have 4 teams of 2 players each. Therefore, you can set the "Number of players per team" field to 2, and set this field to 4, giving you a 4 team FFA type match, with each team having 2 players.
If you are still not quite sure what this field means, just leave the values at their default settings.
Membership Requirement - If you leave this at none, all players can register in your tournament. By selecting Gold and Platinum or Platinum, you can limit the registration to only those that have the specified membership i.e. gold or plat or diamond.
Multiple Day Tournament - Check this box if your tournament will take more than one day to complete.
Invitation Only Tournament - This is to make a tournament invitation only. You must have hosted at least 20 tournaments to be eligible for Invitation Only. If this is checked, you must register all players for the tournament by entering their ladder name and your TD password on the registration page. Ladder Stats are not available for invitation-only tournaments.
Ladder Stats Tournament - This box is checked as a matter of default this means that all matches in that tourney are reported to the ladder. If you uncheck it, adjustments will be made to the players tournament stats only and no matches will be reported. Most leagues use ladder stats.
TOC Tournament - This is very similar to the invitation only format except that you choose the dates to n from that players will be notified and entered from. The Admin and HTD'S do have the right to restrict who hosts a TOC.
Use your default rules page and display dedicated java IRC chat room on main tournament page are checked as default and left as that.
Ladderbux Settings - There You have three choices:
No Entry Fee; No Prize or Ladderbux Rewards - This means that no ladderbux will be charged for an entry fee, and no bux will be awarded to the players. This is only used for your 1st 5 tourneys .
No Entry Fee; Ladderbux to Top Finishers - No ladderbux will be charged for an entry fee, however for every player registered; the system will put one bux into the total pot. (This option becomes available after you have hosted 5 tournaments.) Also when you have completed 5 tourneys you will have the option to donate.
Ladderbux Entry Fee; Ladderbux to Top Finishers -Ladderbux entry fee can be charged for each player that registers, you can choose that entry fee by selecting from the drop-down box. (This option becomes available after you have hosted 10 tournaments.)
After completing all of the above, double-check that all of your settings are correct, then click the create tournament button. if you have forgotten to put in some of the fields then cases will say an error, but it wont record an error if you set your ladderbux entry fee wrong unless you haven't done the required tourneys so make sure you have set that correct. You now have a tourney created.
